Da Gianni

Bologna, IT
Our last meal in Bologna was at Da Gianni, a trattoria tucked away an ally off a busy pedestrian street in the city center. It is pretty much in the heart of tourist territory and thus the restaurant was filled with tourists. The good thing is, Gianni attempts to keep things traditional, not catered to the foreigners, and because of that and the glowing recommendations, we made a point to come here for lunch.
Prosciutto and Melon
We started with prociutto and melon, which was excellent and by far the best version of the dish we'd ever had. The melon was a deep dark orange color bursting with juicy flavor, really the reason why this dish was so amazing. The prociutto was soft and salty, not too dried or cured, the best version that we had on our trip. Overall, a really perfect seasonal starter.
Tortellini in brodo
Tortellini in brodo is a classic Bolognese dish that we tried during our last meal there. Chu-Toro was fighting a sore throat, so she ordered this dish for the warm broth. This is basically their version of chicken soup and it was simple and interesting. The broth itself comes out scolding hot, is a little salty and the tortellini a bit al dente for my tastes, but it served it's purpose well for Chu-Toro and we are glad we tried it.

Gnocchi a la bolognese
Gnocchi a la bolognese was my last bite in Bologna and it was a good one. The generous portion of light airy gnocchi was balanced well with a good Bolognese sauce,  a perfect farewell dish to Bologna.

Overall 7/10
