To call Cheeseboard Pizza an institution is an understatement. Any excuse i can make to come here, I find a way. Going to a baseball game, we'll exit BART at Shattuck and grab a Cheeseboard. Going to drive to Cal Poly for a recruiting trip, why not stop off in Berkeley for Cheeseboard. Random weekend? Figure out a good reason to drive to Berkeley for Cheeseboard. Don't get me wrong, I've been to Berkeley and not eaten at Cheeseboard. I've also given proper chances to other nearby popular pizza places, Gioia, Emelia's, Arizmendi's to compare, but nothing can meet the superior quality of ingredients and piping hot pie found at Cheeseboard. Between here and Pizzeria Mozza in LA, I have my favorite pizza places covered in Cali. The simplicity of the pie, the mini sliver they give you to snack on while you walk to you table, the light drizzle of olive oil on the pizza is perfection in my mind. I will admit, they are a niche pizza market. You don't get to pick you toppings, they change the pizza type daily, and it's vegetarian. Some people dislike that. Combined with the long lines, limited seating and not being open on Sundays, it can turn some patrons off. But if you are looking for premium cheese and veggies on a beautifully baked crust, I don't think there's a better place.
