Tuco's Wine Bar

Davis, CA
Tuco's Wine bar is a small gem in Davis, CA. Inconspicuously located at the start of G street by the train tracks, Chu-Toro and I have been meaning to come try out this local fav. On a Monday night for her birthday, we sat outside with Shaddy and examined a menu filled with a strange variety of Tapas, pizzas (flatbread) and entrees. We started off with some cheesy puffs and a half dozen oysters on the half shell. They weren't really called cheesy puffs, but thats exactly what they tasted like similar to the cheese bread offered at a Brazilian steakhouse. They weren't unique, but freshly made with care. The oysters are sent to Tuco's every other day from Washington and full filled an oyster itch, but I generally prefer to shuck my own oysters from Tomales Bay.

My favorite bite of the night were the corn cakes from the tapas menu. Piping fresh, they were served with a side of creme fraiche and chives. Made with great texture, crispy on the edges and fluffy in the middle, and bursting with fresh corn flavor.

Flatbread with prosciutto, arugula and olives was Chu-Toro's entrée. The high quality toppings were great, especially the olives, but the flat bread itself was chewy.

I ordered the Chicken Pot Pie which was a large serving of scolding hot, rich tasty chicken filling and flaky, buttery, fatty crust. It was very enjoyable.

For what it was in Davis, CA it was a good meal. I wouldn't prefer it to a solid place in the city or wine country, but it was a nice quality meal with fresh ingredients a caring staff. They must have filled up my ice tea 4 or five times and made sure Shaddy had a filled refreshment too.
