Bistro Jeanty

Yountville, CA
From our numerous trips to Yountville, we never had any urge to come to Bistro Jeanty. Mainly because in the past few years, reviews have pointed downhill for the French bistro. We however notice that they had a happy hour for $1 oysters from 3:30 - 6:30 so decided to hop in for an afternoon snack. We ordered a dozen $1 oysters, Miyagi oysters from Point Reyes, a glass of Schramsberg 2005 Brut Napa Valley Caneros for $18 bucks and shared their famous tomato soup with puff pastry in the covered patio which Shaddy was allowed to come.
CRÊME DE TOMATE EN CROUTE
The tomato soup was a little watery and was hoping for it to be a bit creamier. The puff pastry was a nice accompaniment but if that's the best dish they have to offer here, I can see why things have moved downhill.
Miyagi oysters
We were really craving oysters but were too lazy to drive to Oxbow for Hog Island oysters. That was a bad move because these oysters had a little fishy aftertaste, not the crisp sweet flavors we would expect from a December oyster. The best part was the cocktail sauce it came with which killed the nature flavor of the oyster, but was really tasty.

Overall, it was a fine snack, but not a place we'd make a special trip for. The staff was friendly to us and Shadow and despite ending up spending $50 bucks for a snack, we had a fun afternoon.

  1. Bistro Jeanty actually has some great food, of which the tomato soup is in the top half but far from "their best".
If you get a chance to go again, try the lamb tongue salad. Delicious... and really quite unique. Their beef tartare is also the freshest (and biggest) I've ever had -- like a whole pound of fresh beef, and entirely too much raw meat for one person

  2. I'll keep that in mind next time we're in Yountville. It's always such a hard choice since there are so many of our faves in the area, but definitely appreciate the tip.
